Understanding the Power of Social Media Strategy and Instagram

Yalena Das

Social media strategy is the biggest opportunity of the decade. But most people fail at it because they follow outdated strategies. Let’s dive in. Most people think social media strategy is oversaturated.

But the truth is, it’s actually never been easier to grow if you know what you’re doing. Here’s the cool thing that no one’s talking about. With platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, they’re actually prioritizing new creators more than ever.

Here’s a prime example of this. Have you noticed that people just go viral on these social channels when they have few to no followers? It’s because social media strategy is now democratized.

How Social Media Algorithms Work for New Creators

How did this new creator with barely any followers get hundreds and millions of views over all these social platforms? Well, the way their algorithms work now, and it didn’t work this way in the past, is that even if you only have 100 followers, and let’s say you post a video, they may not show it to all 100 followers, but if they show it to 10 of them, and all 10 watch the whole video every single second, it tells these platforms, hey, people love this content. We should go and show it to 1,000 and then 10,000. And if all of those people engage and they watch the majority of the video, it then tells the platform, people love this content, show it to everyone on YouTube growth or TikTok or Facebook that may be interested in it, even if those followers don’t follow the creator.

That, in essence, is how social media strategy works today. All they care about is your view length. Are people sticking around for the majority, if not the whole, video? If you can get that done, your video will go viral.

The Importance of Understanding Platform Preferences

One of the big keys to doing well on social media strategy today is knowing what these platforms push and what they prefer versus what they don’t care for.

But one key element that you also need to include in this strategy is a hook. What can you do to not just get people’s attention but also keep them there? Microsoft Canada did a study, and they found that humans have a shorter attention span than a goldfish. So you want to make sure that you’re using a peeling hook at the start of the video.

Crafting the Perfect Hook for Instagram and Beyond

This way, you’re not only drawing people in, but it also helps convince them to watch the rest of the video. Now, throughout the video, when you’re discussing other subtopics, I want you to also think about what hooks you can use throughout the video to keep people engaged and help keep their interest so they watch the rest of the video. And on top of this, other dramatic shifts with social media strategy mean it’s becoming even easier to grow from zero followers.

The Role of AI in Social Media Strategy

If you notice, with all these social platforms, whether it’s TikTok or YouTube growth
or Facebook, they’re all talking about how they’re using AI. This AI technology that they’ve built analyzes a lot of your past data to figure out what you’re going to want to watch next before you even realize it. That makes it even easier to generate more views, even if you have few to no followers.

Engagement is King

In essence, this just means engagement is king. If you can get someone to watch all of your content, you’re going to crush it and do well. But the key to that is to make sure that you keep people engaged through sub hooks.

Sub Hooks keep them wanting more. Think of them as titles of a chapter in a book or subheadings of a section. This way, they know what they’re going to anticipate.

That’s going to leave them on the edge of their seat, wanting more. The way recommendations work on these platforms is that they look for patterns. Imagine a million people is using YouTube growth
and you also use YouTube.

You watch videos on it each and every single day. And so do these other million people. And you guys watch actually similar types of content.

But out of that million, there’s a subset of 100,000 people who watch the same exact content engagement as you. Not similar, but the same exact content. So what they’ll start doing is looking at all the people in that 100,000 group.

What are all the videos that people watch? And what are the videos that some of them have watched that others haven’t? They’ll start showing people all the videos that they miss because they know you’re just like every single one of those 100,000 other people. And they’ll show you those videos because they know you’re likely to watch that video, which creates more engagement on their platform. And in your head, you’re like, wow, how they realize this is the exact video I wanted to watch right now during this time.

It’s because they’re analyzing patterns. And with AI, it’s even easier than it was before. Now, if you don’t believe me that you can go viral with very few to no followers.

Choosing the Right Platform for Your Social Media Strategy

Finally, you’ll need to understand that different social media strategy platforms can help you grow faster and in different ways.

Different social platforms have different strengths depending on your goals. For example, LinkedIn is great for B2B. YouTube growth is great for evergreen content.

See, YouTube growth isn’t really the social network that most people think it is. It’s more so a platform for streaming where people can go to get advice or learn about something at any given time. Even if a topic was talked about 3, 4, 5 years ago.

Instagram and TikTok are great for what’s happening right now. Facebook is great if you want to appeal to an older audience. See, each of these platforms has different strengths and weaknesses.

What you want to do is adjust your content engagement based on their strengths. That way, you can maximize your reach based on the platform.

See, the way most social algorithms work, if you just keep posting content engagement randomly, and it gets little to no engagement, what it tells that social platform is, hey, Neil or John or Becky, post mediocre content that no one cares to engage with. And then, when you post an amazing piece of content that you know everyone’s going to love, it won’t do that well.

Why? Because these platforms have been taught that you tend to post mediocre content. Sure, you’ll get more views than your average mediocre post, but you won’t get the amount of views that you deserve. Now, the real key to making sure that these platforms don’t hate you is to first test your content engagement on X. X is a very different type of platform than all the other social platforms.

Testing Content Engagement Effectively Using X

If you keep posting on X multiple times, even if it’s junk or mediocre content, it doesn’t penalize you if your next post is amazing or terrible. They look at each one independently. Now, the other social networks, yes, do look at each piece independently as well, but your previous posting history does affect.

You can retrain those other platforms, but it takes a while. X, on the other hand, you can just post as much as you want. It could just be word vomit.

Just post different types of text-based content engagement or video-based content, and you’ll see quickly what is getting tons of engagement on X. You then take your winners from X, the ones that did well, that top 10% or 20%, you then repost those on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok. When you do that, what you’ll find is, the content engagement you’re posting on the other platforms is much more likely to get tons of engagement and potentially even go viral.

Optimizing for Search on Instagram and Other Platforms

When you look at the younger generation, Gen Z, they turn to TikTok and Instagram to perform a search before they turn to Google. So, if you optimize for keywords on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and all the other social platforms, you can actually keep getting more and more traffic over time.

Best of all, that continually drives traffic each and every single month over time. Even if your video is six months or even a year old, this is how you keep getting more and more reach from your old content. The reason you need to optimize for these social search platforms is that they command a lot of searches.

Scaling Your Content Engagement Production for Success

Now, once you’ve figured out exactly what to post and how to post it to go viral, you’ll need to produce content engagement at scale if you actually want to grow. You need to post lots of content. It doesn’t matter how good you are at social media strategy marketing or just marketing in general; you never truly know what’s going to go viral and what’s not.

So that way, you don’t have to spend as much time. If you also have a team and a workflow, it makes things easier as well. All these tools aren’t perfect yet, but they are getting better and better over time.

Building a Team for Social Media Strategy Growth

If large corporations like Louis Vuitton or Chanel or Adobe or even car companies like Mitsubishi are hitting you up to work with you and they’re willing to offer money, it’s the time to hire a team.

By hiring a team, you’ll be able to scale and make money faster, and you can focus more of your efforts on the monetization side. And if you can’t hire a team but you need help in the short run, you can always get interns from your local college.

The type of people that you could be hiring are researchers, people who can come up with topic ideas and tell you what’s going to be hot and what’s not. Scriptwriters who can not just outline what you should be talking about but must make sure that it flows well in a cohesive way. You also want to hire potential editors.
